Join us in welcoming 21-year-old American goalkeeper, Johan Peñaranda, to the Agrinzonis family!
Johan is a promising and mentally disciplined young goalkeeper of Colombian descent, who most recently played with Florida International University in Miami. Where he recorded 38 saves across 7 matches. Leading the Conference-USA in both saves per game (5.43 Avg/G) and save percentage (.864%). Earning him Second Team All-Conference honors for the 2020-21 season. He had a stellar performance against Marshall University where he recorded a career best 14 saves.
As Johan split time growing up in both New York and Miami, he learned the game at a young age from his uncle Christopher, who was also a goalkeeper. Johan followed in his uncle’s footsteps by choosing the same position. As he progressed his grandfather began to guide him throughout his career, beginning when Johan was 12 years old. Both his grandparents and his uncle played a massive role in his upbringing and development, supporting him as his career began to evolve.
As a youth, he spent 2.5 seasons with local New York club Blau Weiss Gottschee before joining New York City FC’s academy in 2016. During his time with the MLS club, Johan won the Generation Adidas Cup in 2017 and earned the Golden Glove award for his exceptional performance in the tournament. The following year Johan won the U.S. Soccer Development Academy championship with NYCFC, where he made a crucial save in penalties to secure the trophy.
Simultaneously throughout his club career, Johan had stints with the U.S. men’s national team at the U-14 and U-19 levels. In 2018, he made his international debut with the U-19’s during a friendly match against Jamaica’s U-20 team. His time with the national team was a massive catalyst for his development, solely because it elevated his level of play and strengthened his fearless mindset as a competitor.
Following his time with NYCFC and the U.S. national team, Johan attended the University of Pittsburgh and was a part of their program for the 2018 and 2019 seasons. Due to Covid, Johan decided to relocate back to Miami so he could be closer with his family. Upon this move, he decided to transfer to Florida International University in order to further his development.

Mientras Johan crecía tanto en Nueva York como en Miami, aprendió los conceptos básicos del fútbol gracias a su tío Christopher, quien también era portero. Johan siguió los pasos de su tío eligiendo la misma posición; A medida que avanzaba, su abuelo comenzó a guiarlo a lo largo de su carrera, comenzando cuando Johan tenía 12 años. Debido al Covid, Johan toma la opción de volver a mudarse a Miami para poder estar más cerca de su familia. Tras este cambio decide transferirse a la Universidad Internacional de Florida para seguir su desarrollo.
